ACerS President's Council of Student Advisors (PCSA) is a new student-run group whose mission is to engage students as active and long-term leaders in the ceramics community and to increase participation in ACerS at the local and national levels.
The PCSA is hosting two ceramic-specific events at MS&T '08. All students are invited to attend.
Monday, Oct. 6 4:20 - 4:40 p.m. (Convention Center - Room 403): Safe and Educational Lab Demos - Join Laura Burka, ACerS PCSA Outreach Committee Chair from Clemson University, and Victoria Knox, ACerS PCSA Programming Chair from Alfred University, as they present safe and educational lab demos. The demos will outline the correct method of performing three simple demonstrations fo rboth children and young adults. The three demonstrations will use corn starch putty, liquid nitrogen, and superconductivity. The key idea is to make the demonstration educational by telling the students age-appropriate details about the science at work and getting the students involved with the demonstration by either getting dirty or smashing things to pieces. Don't miss it!
9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (Convention Center): Student Tour of McDanel Advanced Ceramic Technologies - Students have the opportunity to tour McDanel Advanced Ceramic Technologies. Bus transportation will depart from the convention center at 8 a.m. and will return by 1 p.m. Location of departure to be announced. McDanel is a technical ceramics manufacturer and is a leading manufacturer of refractory alumina, mullite and partially stabilized zirconia tubes. The ceramic tubes are made by using the extrusion process, slip casting and isostatic pressing. You will see processes from batching to forming through drying and firing. The tour is open to all students and is free of charge. Space is limited, so RSVP today! Contact Victoria Knox, Alfred University student and PCSA Programming Chair, to sign up. |
