Bennett is the Research Program Lead at the National Energy Technology Laboratory – US Department of Energy (Albany, Oregon), where he heads a team that focuses on refractory liners for advanced gasification systems. He enjoys working within the federal government, where he has been able to use research to improve material performance and make processes more efficient and cost effective for the benefit of tax-payers and the government. Prior to joining the USDOE, Bennett worked at Babcock and Wilcox Co. (Augusta, GA) as a technician and research engineer of refractory materials, Atlantic Metals Co. (Philadelphia, PA) as a researcher for hot topping compound, specialty thermites, metal alloys, and refractory material issues, Assurance Glass Co. (Selma, AL) to start up a research and development laboratory and as a shift superintendent, and the US Bureau of Mines (Tuscaloosa, AL) as a researcher and supervisor conducting research on advanced ceramic materials and refractories.
Bennett received his BS in Ceramic Engineering from Clemson University, and his MS in Ceramic Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
He has been an ACerS member since 1978 and has served as the secretary, vice-chair, and chair of the Refractory Ceramics Division, and the secretary and vice-chair of the Southeastern Section. He was a member of the ACerS Nominating Committee, and was a member as well as Chair of the Panel of Fellows. Bennett was elevated to an ACerS Fellow in 1998.
Why I belong to ACerS: I believe
in a professional organization for ceramic and ceramic related fields, and in the
importance of it to aid in the dissemination of information and to provide a
forum for individuals to meet on a regular basis so they might exchange
information and establish/maintain personal contacts. |
